    Winter Wedding Photo Collection

Seasonsโ€ฆ ya gotta love ’em. They keep life interesting after all.

Springโ€ฆ fresh flowers, full of joy

Summerโ€ฆ warm evenings, loads of daylight, nice and warm (usually).

    Autumnโ€ฆ beautiful colours, gorgeous sunsets

    Winterโ€ฆ cold and dark.

If you’re getting married in the winter then you may not be expecting great wedding photos.

Worry not though, with a photographer experienced in shooting winter weddings ๐Ÿ˜‰ even the weather can’t keep us from producing some slammin’ photos.

All the photos in this gallery were taken between the months of October and March, or in the dark, just to make a point.

Just so you know, that was the first time I had ever used the term slammin’ photos.  Probably also my last.

If you’re looking a photographer who knows what they’re doing in the winter you know who to call :-).

    See ya next time,

    James

Winter Wedding @ Whirlowbrook Hall :: Amarise & Mike

    A Christmassy Wedding

When you get married a few days after Christmas your theme is pretty much set.ย  Come to think about it, I don’t really think Amarise and Mike had a theme as such at all.ย  It really was all about being chilled out, relaxing and enjoying the day.

This relaxed attitude ran all the way through the day.ย  I joined the girls as they were getting ready in the Sycamore suite of Whirlowbrook Hall.ย  For December it was a beautiful day.ย  The sun was beaming in through the window and it was actually rather mild.ย  This seemed somewhat ironic actually since the Australian leg of their wedding a few weeks prior was pretty much rained out.

    Whirlowbrook Hall in the Winter

The weather is a true test of a wedding venue like Whirlowbrook Hall.ย  The Hall is surrounded by beautiful scenery, so in the sunshine you cannot go wrong when it comes to getting some portraits.

Where things can come undone is when the weather is not so favourable.ย  Fortunately for us, this was not tested today, however, I’m confident that there would still have been plenty ofย  indoor options in a place like this.

I have actually been following Whirlowbrook Hall on Instagram for a while so it was lovely to finally get up there to an actual wedding.

To be honest, I’m probably not the right photographer for you.

    The Photos

If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that nobody ever reads what I write on this blogs.ย  All you guys want to see is photos, and that’s fine because I’ve got a load to show you.

Here is a small selection of highlights from the collection.

Oh, and if you are as impressed as I am with the flowers, make sure you check out Moss and Clover Kelham.

  • Lantern Theatre and Courtyard Cafe Weddingย

Lantern Theatre and Courtyard Cafe Weddingย

** This wedding was featured in Rock N Roll Bride wedding blog in March 2018, which is awesome!

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for nearly two years.

Every since Pippa told me she and Dean would be getting married in the Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge I knew it was going to be something different.

    I like different.

    Lantern Theatre Wedding Ceremony

Looking around the 1890s theatre, it is such an interesting place that I would probably quite enjoy taking photos there even if there were no wedding going on.

Pippa and her bridesmaids got ready in the changing rooms, naturally.

To be clear this is not the wedding venue for everyone.

The dressing room is quite drafty. Even though it was an unseasonably warm November day there was no getting away from the chill.

Combating the chill was an electric heater which was plugged into one of only 2 power sockets.

    Yes, only 2 power sockets.

So, if the idea of getting ready for your wedding in a chilly dressing room with very little power available for hair dryers, straighteners, phone chargers and so on then the Lantern Theatre is perhaps not for you.

If, like Pippa, you can see passed all that then you are in for an absolute treat.

    The Courtyard Cafe Wedding Reception

Today was a day of hidden gems.

The Courtyard Cafe in Attercliffe looks, at least from the outside, to be quite small.

Walk through the door and you are in for a surprise.

By day the Courtyard is a cafe serving hot and cold food.

What is unique about it is the fact that it is, quite literally a courtyard.

You dine in the open courtyard area surrounded by interesting little shops.

It’s a lovely outside inside concept and well worth a visit.

What you might not expect is that the Courtyard Cafe by night becomes a magnificent wedding venue.

Heaps of character, beautiful food and really friendly staff.

    Rocky and the Stage Dive

Usually its the bride who comes with a photo wish list.

Shots that they really wanted me to try to capture through the day.

This time it was Dean with the list.

Well, I’m always up for a challenge.

First on the list was to recreate the final moment of Rocky III, a scene for which he brought boxing gloves to add to the authenticity.

Then he wanted to to do a stage dive and be caught by his groomsmen.

Followed by a photo of the guys up on the balcony.

And finally a photo of the other love of his life, a Ford Cortina.

I had an absolute blast photographing this wedding.

I think that will come across in some of the photos.

Well, that was my last wedding of 2017, hope you enjoyed it.

Look out for my 2017 retrospective coming soon along with plenty more articles on weddings, advice, photography.

    See ya next time.
