I imagine getting married at a place like Carlton Towers is every little girl’s dream.
This grade I listed country house is absolutely majestic inside and out. I was especially taken aback by the fact that, when inside, you are made to feel less like a guest at a wedding venue and more a guest of the Duke of Norfolk himself.
Now, it should be known that ‘stately’ is not a word you would use to describe my style of photography.
Where your typical royal photographer has a particular set of crisp, clean portrait style images to produce, I tend to buzz around taking real photos of real people doing real things. Fortunately that is exactly why Emma and Oliver brought me along for their wedding.
They wanted to capture the fun and feel of the day.

With that said, when one finds oneself in such a stately environment, it would be a shame not to take advantage of such tremendous surroundings. Carlton Towers is still a private residence. Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan-Howard live there with their family, so we only had access to main parts of the house.
When I say only, Carlton Towers is no ordinary house. We had plenty of plans to use the grand staircases and hallways if it had rained, fortunately we had no need for such plans in the end as the sun was well and truly shining.
This meant that we were able to take a supervised stroll through the private gardens for a couple of evening snaps before the sun went down.
Would I Recommend Cartlon Towers as a Wedding Venue?
I can imagine that Carlton Towers wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste. It can come across as being very formal, stately and grandiose. None of those are bad things by any means, in fact as I said at the start, stately homes such as Carlton Towers tick a lot of boxes for those planning a princess style wedding.
Add to that, the team running the day did so admirably. Both event managers were attentive and courteous, and most importantly made sure everything ran smoothly. As far as I could tell, Emma and Oliver had a perfect day at Carlton Towers.
I can imagine that if Carlton Towers is not the right venue for you, it would be pretty obvious upfront. Basically what I’m trying to say is that this is not a boho venue.
Bottom line, I would definitely recommend Cartlon Towers as a wedding venue, so long as Stately is your style.
