Nick & Victoria’s DoubleTree by Hilton, York Wedding

Nick & Victoria’s DoubleTree by Hilton, York Wedding

The first ever DoubleTree by Hilton, York Wedding

This is the story of the first ever wedding at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in York

Let me explain.

For my initial meeting with Nick and Victoria we got together at the Best Western Monkbar Hotel in the centre of York.

The Monkbar Hotel was to be their wedding venue, so it seemed like a good opportunity to combine our planning meeting with a scout around.

The meeting went well.

We had a look around, figured out where I could set up my Unmanned Corner Cam and picked a few nice photo spots.

A last minute wedding venue change!

Jump forward to September this year.

About a week before the wedding day I get an email from Nick.

The venue had changed!

It is no longer the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, they were now getting married at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Now, I should explain at this point that the actual venue had not changed, only the branding.

Nick’s email to me explained that on the Thursday before the wedding the hotel was changing from the Monkbar Hotel to a DoubleTree by Hilton.

Not a problem, I thought to myself.  A different sign on the door won’t change anything.

Not the Monkbar Hotel anymore

When I arrived on the morning of the wedding I discovered that it was more than just a change of name.

The entire lobby had been remodelled and the reception room that we had looked at was now gone.

The outdoor quad where we had planned a few photos was now a building site so that was out of the equation too.

Not a problem

Having said all this, none of these changes actually presented any issues on the day.

The hotel staff were all still getting used to the change, and they handled this very well as far as I could gather.

Nick and Victoria also seemed perfectly fine with the changes.

The only actual issue I was aware of was around hot water in the bridal suite.

They were the first to use the brand new bridal suite which was build so recently that the hot water wasn’t actually working yet.  To be honest I don’t know whether that was resolved by the time they came to need the water, though I’m sure all was well in the end.

When getting married in York, get photos on the wall!

We were so close to Monk bar that it seemed like a no-brainer to go take a walk on the walls for some photos.

The newly-weds were inundated by well-wishing tourists, many wanting photos of the beautiful bride which they seemed to love.

Special mention to Victoria for being brave enough to climb the narrow wall stairs in her dress.

After we got a few portraits on the walls is was time to head back to the DoubleTree for the reception dinner.

As it happens we were very fortunate with timings as it started to rain just minutes after we got back to the hotel.

Two Bob

I have to give a special shout-out to Two Bob, what great entertainment they provided to kick off the evening reception.

I wish I could give you a link to be able to find them but I couldn’t find them on Google, if you are lucky enough to come across them please do send me a link over.

Once Two Bob has finished their set the DJ kicked things off with the cutting of the cake, first dance and then the official opening of the dance-floor.

More Photos!

So to bring the story to a close, the fact that the hotel had completely re-branded a few days prior, and was also in the middle of a significant remodelling, I would say everything went very well.

It was a lovely, easy going day which I thoroughly enjoyed.

So without further ado, here is the video slideshow plus a selection of highlights from the photo album for you to scroll through.

I would love to photograph your wedding day

As you can probably tell, I'm a pretty laid back photographer. I take photos of people who are happy, so that I don't have to keep asking people to smile.

You know why they're happy?

Because they found the right photographer that suited them and the flow of their day.

I might not be the right photographer for you, if you fancy getting in touch to find out then hit the button below.
