Barnsley Town Hall & Portcullis Wedding :: Sarah & Jack

I don’t mind being wrong from time to time.

Living in Sheffield I get to hear a lot of talk about neighbouring Barnsley.

“There’s nothing worth seeing in Barnsley” they’ll say.

I must confess, until Sarah & Jacks wedding ceremony at Barnsley Town Hall I don’t think I have ever actually been into Barnsley at all, ever.

So, I had a pretty grim, almost snobbish idea about what the Town Hall might look like,

Well let me tell you, this is not a Town Hall to be ashamed of.

Getting Ready @ Tankersley Manor

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves though because we need to talk briefly about the fact that Sarah and her bridal party were getting ready at nearby Tankersley Manor.

I was pretty excited about this because I have never been to Tankersley Manor before. I do have a wedding coming up there very soon so this was a perfect chance for me to get to know the place.

I’ll save sharing my opinions until I have had chance to experience a full wedding there. Suffice to say I am very much looking forward to spending the day here.

Barnsley Town Hall Wedding Ceremony

As I have already mentioned, Barnsley Town Hall is a pretty magnificent building.

The grandeur continues as you head up the magnificent staircase and into a set of huge function rooms.

I don’t want to gush too much about the place though, so let’s move on to the reception venue.

Portcullis Wedding Reception

I think it would be fair to say that this is a classic ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ situation.

You might be forgiven for driving straight past the Portcullis and not noticing it.

I must say though, once inside this tardis of a building opens up into a pretty decent sized venue.

The grounds are a little lacking, so photo opp spots are pretty limited. My advice would be to try to get as many photos elsewhere if you are planning group shots.

We did all ours on the steps of the Barnsley Town Hall which worked out very well.
